The first is to select the materials used for grinding. Grinding cemented carbide with silicon carbide grinding wheel can grind a very sharp edge, while corundum grinding wheel is not suitable for grinding cemented carbide, which is more laborious. When grinding, the operator should stand on the left side facing the grinding wheel to keep the main cutting edge on one side of the drill bit horizontal and slightly higher than the horizontal plane passing through the center of the grinding wheel. If the main cutting edge does not remain horizontal or even lower than the horizontal plane of the center of the grinding wheel, there will be defects of the incorrect shape of the main cutting edge or high flank.


Secondly, the correct included angle between the drill axis and the grinding surface of the circumference of the grinding wheel shall be maintained. It should be noted that the right hand is in front and the left hand is in the back. The drill tail is slightly lower than the drill bit. The drill edge contacts the circumferential surface of the grinding wheel, and appropriate pressure should be applied and a small range of lateral movement should be made. The drill tail should not exceed the horizontal plane to prevent grinding out a negative back angle. It should be noted that the two flanks should be ground in turn frequently. After grinding one side, do not take up the drill bit to see, but directly turn to the other side for grinding. Because the position of the hand remains unchanged, the two main cutting edges of the drill bit are not easy to have one high and one low.


After grinding the main cutting edge, stand on the right side and keep the main cutting edge level. The grinding of the side edge should be as few as possible to prevent the hole diameter from becoming smaller. The side edge to be ground is parallel to the drill axis or slightly reduced towards the drill tail. From the rotation direction of the drill bit, the main cutting edge and side edge should be slightly higher than the back, so that there are edges and sharp edges, so as to cut smoothly without jamming. Avoid excessive grinding, otherwise, the drilling edge will wear fast and not be durable.
